The Designer

Founded in New York in 1973 by Israeli-American designer Elie Tahari, the house built its reputation on polished American contemporary tailoring — silks, tweeds, suede footwear — pitched at a woman who dresses for work and expects one piece to take her into evening. Sold at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks and Neiman Marcus for five decades.
