The Designer
Diane von Furstenberg invented the wrap dress in 1974 and built a global empire on its premise: a single piece of silk jersey a woman could step into before work and wear straight into the evening. Within two years, one million had sold, and Newsweek called her "the most marketable woman since Coco Chanel." The silhouette is still stocked from Bergdorf Goodman to Net-a-Porter — still, after 50 years, the wrap.
