The Prong Dress moment

Rick Owens introduced the Prong Dress in his Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Kim Kardashian wore the original black version to Paris Hilton's wedding in November 2021; from there it filtered through Paloma Elsesser, Cardi B, Heidi Klum, and Katy Perry (in holographic green, on American Idol), and into the editorial mainstream. By January 2024, W Magazine ran the headline "You Can't Escape the Rick Owens Prong Dress," noting that the silhouette had dethroned the Mugler bodysuit as the defining piece of contemporary celebrity dressing.

The Designer

American designer Rick Owens has shown his eponymous label in Paris since 2003. The house is defined by sculptural silhouettes, a singular post-apocalyptic palette, and a refusal to follow seasonal whim — pieces from his archive routinely outlast their drop year and continue to circulate as fashion artefacts.
