The Designer

Chanel treats leather the way it treats tweed — as couture fabric. Lambskin and patent are hand-selected and finished to a depth the mainline still charges €4,000+ for, and archive pieces in exotic leathers predate the current CITES restrictions that make them nearly impossible to produce new. Under Karl Lagerfeld (1983–2019) leather became one of the house's most considered registers.
